Hetty's 100 Hats

We did this project when we were learning about the letter H. I have to admit, I ended up being the one to make the hat, but I do think Bekah thought it was pretty neat that you can make a hat out of a piece of newspaper.

Hetty's 100 Hats is an adorable book by Emma Dodd. It's about a little girl who starts collecting hats. She is determined to have 100 hats. At the end of the book, there are directions included to make your own newspaper hat. Bekah really enjoyed this story, but did not want to wear her hat. Oh, well!

  1. Emma Dodd is a fantastic illustrator/author. We've read many of her books, but not this one.

Love that cartoon hat! Last year we made high tea hats out of wrapping paper for my daughter's tea party. I bet you daughter would like making one of those, too. It would look a little like the picture on the cover of the book. Here's a link if you are interested in crafting more hats: http://www.brimfulcuriosities.com/2010/03/princess-tea-birthday-party.html

  3. You need to tell her that hats are all the rage- the comics section will most definitely compliment her skin tone... :0)

  4. ooh I like the sound of a 100 hats!! And we often have scenarios where I end up "doing more" than my son, but I find he likes "watching me",esp if it something he is unsure of. I think they still enjoy the process and still feel that they "made it". So no problem in my eyes!!

    Thanks for linking up!

  5. That sounds like a super cute book. I remember thinking it was the coolest thing to make a hat out of newspaper when I was a kid.
